Stewardship Sourcebook is a concise, easy-to-follow guide for pastors and lay leaders to inspire
stewardship as a way of life in their churches.
Stewardship Sourcebook draws from Parish Publishing’s decades of wisdom and experience working with over
16,000 churches, starting and maintaining multi-year stewardship plans for various size churches.
Parish Publishing has really covered the bases in this how-to guide, assembling a wealth of knowledge about
understanding stewardship, creating a stewardship committee, educating and communicating with the
congregation, perspectives on fundraising, creating and scheduling a multi-year plan, and much more.
All of the resources listed in the Stewardship Sourcebook are conveniently available online at
www.parishpublishing.org for easy customization and downloading.
A central element of Parish Publishing's message is that any successful stewardship effort is perpetual (just
like preaching is ongoing). They differentiate between creating multi-year “plans” (which are long-term) and
“programs” (which are short-term) - and contend that both are necessary to build and sustain the spirit of
stewardship within a congregation.
Parish Publishing supports its emphasis on perpetual stewardship education (mentioned above) with
supplemental resources such as a monthly newsletter called Stewardship, stewardship campaign resources,
Bible studies and devotional books (mentioned below), a "launch" brochure, sermon supports, and more.
Two excellent Bible studies (summarized below) are also available through Parish Publishing, and can be
used independently or as part of the overall plan laid out in the Stewardship Sourcebook.
Give It All You've Got! is a 16-page Bible study that helps people see why they should give God
their all, and how to do that in their daily lives. The five studies do a nice job of blending engaging
narrative with scriptural teaching. Give it All You’ve Got! emphasizes a whole-life stewardship
perspective, covering themes such as giving God our best, to making disciples, using our spiritual
gifts, making the most of our time, and growing a generous heart.
Live a God-Pleasing Life! is a 28-page Bible study contains three studies that help people
understand that stewardship is a way of life that glorifies God and affects what we do at work, in
our homes, our churches, and in our neighborhoods. Themes covered in this study include faith
as the foundation of our lives, discipleship as the path of our lives, and generosity as the hallmark
of our lives.
Parish Publishing does a wonderful job of integrating resources, providing optional three-week and five-week
stewardship campaigns based on the two Bible studies listed above. Both programs include all the necessary
resources to run a successful annual campaign, and culminate with a “Commitment Sunday” when people turn
in their commitment forms.
Things to be aware of
Stewardship Sourcebook is a no-fluff stewardship guide, laying out the plan in a very clear, step-by-step,
almost textbook-like fashion. The guide would have been even better if Parish Publishing’s great strength -
working with over 16,000 churches in 40 years – were emphasized with anecdotes and testimonials throughout.
Having said that, this is an excellent how-to manual for inspiring and equipping people to develop a lifelong
