183 NEW CHP OFFICERS TO BE SWORN IN
The California Highway Patrol will swear in the largest graduating class in academy
history during graduation ceremonies Friday, August 7, 2009 at the CHP Academy in West
Sacramento. The human-interest stories of these graduates include: a former professional boxer,
a cadet who waited 15 years to fulfill his dream of becoming an officer and a cancer survivor.
Los Angeles Chief of Police William J. Bratton will deliver the graduation address. Chief
Bratton oversees the third largest police department in the United States, managing nearly 10,000
sworn officers and 3,000 civilians.

WHEN: Friday, August 7, 2009. Cadet inspection is at 9 a.m., followed by the graduation
ceremony at 10 a.m. The ceremony will last approximately two hours.
WHERE: CHP Academy, 3500 Reed Avenue, West Sacramento
