GAB APPOINTS NEW MANAGING DIRECTOR
Charles Ireland to build on the success of Theo de Rond
KUALA LUMPUR, 1 March 2007 - Guinness Anchor Berhad (GAB), the brewer of Tiger,
Heineken and Guinness, today announced that effective 1 May 2007, Mr. Charles Ireland, its
Executive Director and General Manager – Marketing will succeed Mr. Theo de Rond as
Managing Director of the Company.
De Rond, who has been pivotal in growing GAB from strength to strength, will leave GAB to
take on new challenges within the Heineken Group following the completion of his four-year
assignment in Malaysia. Under de Rond’s leadership, GAB had enjoyed sustained growth,
turning in record profits, and, in the last year, taking volume leadership and boosting market
share despite the odds of the most trying and challenging times caused by three successive
years of hefty excise duty increases. This performance has been duly reflected in the strong
GAB share price throughout his time at the helm.
During his tenure as Managing Director of GAB, de Rond has been instrumental in introducing
many positive initiatives and developments within the Company. He was the key driver in
implementing the Company’s Vision and Values (VIVA), which has proven to be highly effective
in enhancing the Company’s working culture. He also saw the need to update the image of the
Company and initiated the adoption of a new corporate identity spearheaded by a new
corporate logo in keeping with the ever-changing environment.
Rock solid brand building and a clearly defined strategy executed brilliantly have been the
hallmark of de Rond’s leadership in GAB.
Ireland, 41, joined GAB on 8 May 2006 as General Manager – Marketing and was appointed to
the GAB Board on 26 May 2006. Prior to that, he had spent nine years with Diageo holding
several roles including Managing Director of Diageo Philippines, Commercial Director Asia,
Global Commercial Director RTD brands and several senior commercial roles in Diageo’s GB
business. Ireland brings to GAB a great track record of business, brand and people
development and has been a key contributor to our recent market share gains and strong
Chinese New Year performance. Ireland has further strengthened GAB’s portfolio of diverse
brands with many new initiatives, among which was the launch of Anchor Strong and the re-
branding of Tiger, Malta and Anglia. His marketing strategies and leadership resulted in GAB
recording further growth.
In the days leading to 1 May, de Rond and Ireland will work together to ensure a smooth
handover, continuing the momentum for GAB’s continued success.
