           Job Title:         Finance Officer

           Department:        Operations Department

           Reporting to:      Operations Manager

           Location:          Head office

           Hours              Part time (21 hours per week)

           Salary Band:       Circa £18,000 pa (pro rata) plus benefits


The Mentoring and Befriending Foundation (MBF) aims to increase the effectiveness and
quality of mentoring and befriending as methods of enabling individuals to transform their lives
and/or reach their full potential.

This is achieved through providing training, quality assurance, information, advice and
guidance, organisational consultancy and network membership for people interested in
mentoring and/ or befriending. MBF also promote the value and showcase the benefits of
mentoring and befriending through campaign work, conferences and events.

Purpose of the role:

The purpose of the role is to maintain the organisation’s financial records and systems, and to
provide senior management, trustees and other staff with reliable and timely financial
information and analysis.

Responsibilities:

   Perform bank reconciliations
   Purchase and sales ledger maintenance
   Accruals and prepayments
   Manage the BACS payments system and other means of payment of invoices
   Preparation of monthly financial management accounts including budget monitoring,
    forecasting and reporting
   Interrogation and reconciliation of financial ledgers and budget statements
   Liaise with senior management and other staff over production of management accounts
    and variance reporting
   Regularly review financial procedures to ensure the efficiency of the Finance function is
    maintained and improved
   Assist MBF’s auditors with the production of end of year accounts
   Support the Business Development, Training and Quality Standards and Policy and
    Information departments with financial information

Other responsibilities:
   Engaging with budget holders and relaying financial information to people from a non-
    finance background
   Provide additional ad hoc financial information as required
   Assist the CEO with the production of MBF’s annual budget, and support senior
    management and other staff in developing and managing departmental and project
    budgets
   Carry out any other reasonable tasks as requested by the Operations Manager
