                             (COHRE) TRAINING PROGRAM
   SPONSORED BY FORGARTY INTERNATIONAL CENTRE, NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH, USA

                               Call for applications for scholarships
The Uganda HIV/TB Clinical Operational and Health Services Research (COHRE) Training Program is based at
Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) and works through a collaboration of institutions which include: Makerere
University College of Health Sciences, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Gulu University,
National TB and Leprosy Program (NTLP), Kampala City Council (KCC), Case Western Reserve University USA
and University of Georgia USA. The training program seeks to strengthen capacity in Uganda to conduct
integrated clinical operational and health services research focused on HIV/TB prevention and care. One aspect
of this training program is to provide advanced training to qualified candidates at advanced degree training.
Uganda HIV/TB COHRE Training Program is now soliciting applications from qualified persons for 2012/2013
research projects scholarship (research funds) leading to the award of M.Med Paediatrics or Internal Medicine;
Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology; Master of Public Health ; Masters in Health Services Research.

Prerequisite
Only students who are in their final year (second or third) of study on Masters Degree program at Makerere
University or Mbarara University of Science and Technology are eligible to apply.

Criteria for selection
Applicants for the COHRE training program research support scholarships are expected to abide by the following
conditions:
    1. Commitment to undertake their research project on HIV or TB prevention, care or treatment as part of the
        dissertation and to apply the acquired knowledge to HIV or TB control.
    2. Handle all the rigorous academic requirements of the graduate Masters degree course and abide by the
        COHRE sponsorship terms of reference
    3. Conform to the rules and regulations of the training institution and maintain good standing with their
        academic institution
    4. Develop and maintain a productive career devoted to HIV or TB research and prevention.
    5. Enhance research and public health activities with the COHRE collaborative institutions

Research scholarship terms:
Successful candidates will receive research support funds to enable them complete their masters’ degree
dissertation.


Application Procedure:
Applications accompanied with a curriculum vitae, one-page synopsis of the intended research project, two
letters of recommendation from the supervisor or academic mentor, a statement of objectives indicating the
applicant’s motivation, photocopies of academic certificates and transcripts, applicants masters degree progress
report endorsed by the mentor or academic coordinator and letter of admission to respective universities should
