    brief historical narrative

Whilst working at the NHS in a particularly rapid period of change with
successive governments changing funding arrangements Paul alternated
between being a troubleshooter for hospital management and GP practices
whilst being deeply involved in difficult decisions around the closure of
medical facilities.

Paul was headhunted to Milton Keynes general hospital to project manage
one of the first treatments centres in the UK, from production of the initial
business cases to snagging the completed, highly complex article; this project
started as a Private Finance Initiative and moved to a pilot project to be fast
tracked using a new procurement system; from the first contractor meeting to
handover of this large and complex project took only four years.

Paul changed sectors to work at a top new university as an associate director
of strategy, business and finance, for the estates and facilities management
directorate, a new role seeking to provide a more strategic focus for the
university in the light of a new masterplan and the need for culture change

This includes working on the Benefits Realisation Process which is a formal
process for ensuring that those non-building benefits sought from the
masterplan (such as enhanced reputation) come about.

PC expanded all teams and alongside the front facing maintenance helpdesk
Paul works with excellent teams which have been brought together to form
the Corporate Responsibility Programme – a highly innovative university first
which will deliver ‘net positive impact’ and incorporates a number of activities
including energy and carbon reduction, space utilisation improvements,
transport improvements and wider CR benefits.

PC has presided over the introduction of a new business planning system,
risk register, and a new vision and mission for the directorate.

My work has and does involve:-

      Improving communications across complex organisations;
      Writing estates strategy;
      Delivering innovation and creativity at all levels;
      Implementing leading edge sustainable business practices.
