Math 1300.3: Differential Calculus with Applications
(MW @ 6 PM, CLH-B)
Syllabus
Note: Prerequisite for this course is the High school Calculus or Equivalent.
Following topics will be covered from the book:: Calculus; Early Transcendentals by
Stewart, 7th Ed.
1. Limits and Continuity of Single Variable Functions including Trigonometric,
Logarithmic and Exponentials functions (sections 2.1 to 2.6)
2. Definition of Derivative, Rules of Differentiation and Higher-order derivatives.
(Sections 2.7, 2.8 and chapter 3)
3. Various applications of Derivatives including Curve Sketching (Sec. 4.1 to 4.6)
4. Single variable optimization problems (Applications) (Section 4.7 and more).
5. Antiderivatives. (Section 4.9)
Tentative term test dates are May 16 and June 6; each worth
25%. The Final exam (date around June 20) will be worth 40%.
Number of Assignments (on EWA) will be worth 10%.
Warning: There is no provision for any retest or writing test at any other
time other than the scheduled.
Math 1310.3: Integral Calculus with Applications
Syllabus for
Prerequisites: Math 1300 or Equivalent.
Following topics will be covered:
1. Fundamental Theorem of Calculus.
2. Area under a curve
3. Techniques of Integration
4. Improper Integrals
5. Infinite Series, including Power Series.
Note: For Summer 2012, the textbook will be the Calculus ; Early Transcendental
Functions by James Stewart, 7th Ed. for both courses.
