                       Job Description/Graduate Assistant

Eligibility criteria:
The applicant must be a student registered in the Graduate College in good standing.
Exceptions may be granted for students during the summer, provided they were
registered in good standing during the previous spring term.

Selection Criteria:
The assistantship duties consist of the collection and analyses of enrollment or financial
aid or other statistical data. These data are used to prepare a variety of reports for the
University, outside agencies, and offices of the state and federal governments.

Strong quantitative and analytical skills are necessary. Applicants must demonstrate
extensive knowledge of the Windows Operating System and the Microsoft Office Suite
software. Competency in mathematical and database concepts is highly recommended.

Excellent communication skills are required to draft written materials, and to handle
phone and face-to-face contacts with staff from University and non-university offices.
Both oral and written English competency is required, including knowledge of
vocabulary, punctuation, grammar, and spelling.

The successful applicant will be expected to demonstrate high standards of attendance,
punctuality, time management, and focus on task with minimal external interferences
(e.g., personal phone calls, visitors). He/She must exhibit a courteous, collegial,
professional demeanor toward all colleagues and co-workers.

Representative tasks include:

      collecting and organizing data in tables and spreadsheets:
      examining UI Foundation and UI Banner scholarship and loan account statements
       to prepare allocations of earnings to campus Financial Aid Offices;
      conducting library searches and other research as needed.

Hours and Compensation:
This assistantship is a fifty-percent appointment (20 hours); compensation includes salary
and base tuition waiver. A commitment of two years is preferred.
