A ratio is a comparison of two numbers. When two ratios are written as equal
ratios, the equation is called a proportion.

1. We ordered two large sheet cakes for a birthday party from Fred's Breads.
One white the other chocolate. After the party only 6 out of 24 pieces of
white cake was left. Only 9 out of 36 of the chocolate was left. Is the left
over cakes considered a proportion? ( hint cross-product rule)

6 / 24 = 9/ 36

¼ = ¼ YES

2. Jim passed his GED. His scores are as followed: 46 Writing, 52 Arts and
Literature, 49 Math, 60 social Studies and 53 Science. What is his mean,
median and range?

Mean = 46 + 49 + 52 + 53 + 60 = 260 ÷ 5 = 52
Median = 52
Range = 46 to 60

3. The Wyoming Symphony is selling raffle tickets for a new house. The tickets
are \$100 a piece. They are only selling 1000 tickets. What would be your
odds of winning the house if you bought 5 tickets?

5/1000 = 1/200 = 1 in 200 odds
