To provide the clinical input to the assessment and provision of special seating and wheelchairs to all clients who
are referred to Plymouth Wheelchair Service.
Millbrook Healthcare in partnership with Whizz-Kidz on behalf of Plymouth PCT will provide a unique service that
will ensure that all service users will receive the mobility equipment they require at the time they require it to
enable them to achieve theirs and their family’s/carer’s lifestyle goals. This will be achieved by the following:
providing the clinical input for all service users, their families and carers working very closely with the
multi-disciplinary team supporting the user;
providing the links between clients and other Whizz-Kidz teams such as Wheelchair Skills Training,
Ambassador network and Life Skills training; and
developing links with “hard to reach” sectors of the local community by close liaison with the
referrers, particularly local therapists.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1.1 Following prioritisation and clinic allocation, assess and prescribe the most suitable mobility
equipment to meet the users holistic needs achieving “chair on the day” in 70% of referrals.
1.2 Handover the equipment and agree the level of training and supervision required by each service
1.3 Participate in the organising and functioning of various clinics in a variety of locations throughout the
region (Plymouth, South Hams, West Devon).
1.4 Provide advice to service users, their families, carers and healthcare professionals who contact the
service regarding mobility issues and associated issues.
1.5 Participate and contribute, from time to time, with clinical audit, evaluation and research activities.
1.6 Represent the Service by taking an active role in relevant activities, conferences and events, and
pro-actively ensure that all aspects of the Service are promoted and made equally accessible to all
communities within the region.
2. Management and Administration
2.1 Work closely at all times with other members of staff to ensure an efficient and effective service is
run from the centre.
2.2 Represent Whizz-Kidz and Millbrook Healthcare at local and regional events.
2.3 Co-ordinate with Whizz-Kidz’ Senior Mobility Therapist to ensure that the clinical work undertaken
reflects the requirements of the partnership with Millbrook Healthcare and Plymouth PCT.
2.4 Continually monitor the service ensuring professional and local quality standards are met.
2.5 To make known to Whizz-Kidz’ Head of Clinical and Regional Services any concerns about the
provision of services.
2.6 Maintain relevant databases with adequate and accurate records on the assessment of the user’s
needs, including clinical findings, educational, social and environmental factors, prescription details
with reasoning and the subsequent training and follow-up visits.
2.7 Maintain accurate, full and timely records of workload and activities in accordance with the agreed
Service’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) ensuring appropriate reports are completed within the

3.1 Ensure there is effective communication with all local therapies to promote the Wheelchair service.
3.2 Promote partnership working with local services including local education and social services
3.3 Work closely and build positive relationships with the already established Service User Groups.
4.1 Safeguard at all times the children, young people and vulnerable adults with whom the Service
comes into contact through the strict adherence to Whizz-Kidz’ Safeguarding procedures and
guidelines and local Plymouth policies and procedures.
4.2 Attend Millbrook Healthcare induction and mandatory training.
4.3 Report adverse incidents in accordance with the MHRA adverse incident reporting
4.4 The post holder will work within all policies, procedures and budgets set by and Millbrook Healthcare.
4.5 The post holder will act at all times in the best interest of Whizz-Kidz and Millbrook Healthcare.
4.6 The post holder will form effective working relationships with all staff members, volunteers and
outside organisations as appropriate.
4.7 The post holder must accept responsibility for ensuring that the policies and procedures relating to
Health & Safety in the workplace are adhered to at all times.
4.8 The post holder must respect the confidentiality of data stored electronically and by other means in
line with the Data Protection Act.
4.9 The post holder will not disclose to an unauthorised person any confidential information acquired
through official duties unless they have received official permission to do so.
