									                                                         JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE:                     .5 FTE SPECIAL EDUCATION/RESOURCE ROOM TEACHER

DEFINITION OF POSITION:             To teach students, write Individual Education Programs and to provide academic assessment
                                    data, goals and transitional instruction in a special education program

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:               Building Principal


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Possess or ability to possess a Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate special education endorsement
• Be highly qualified to teach special education in the State of Washington
• Successful teaching, substituting, and/or student teaching experience with elementary-age child with special needs

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Masters’ degree in Special Education
• Evidence of collaborative teaching experience working with paraprofessionals
• Experience in working with IEP online
• Experience working with research based curriculum (i.e. SRA Reading Mastery)
• Knowledge of Washington State School Reform and how it applies to Special Education

ESSENTIAL JOB RELATED ACTIVITIES:
• Plan and provide individualized programs for students assigned to the special education program
• Assess students using standardized assessment tools
• Establish learning goals and objectives consistent with the results of assessment and learning needs of students
• Coordinate individual student programs as team leader/member of the multidisciplinary team
• Work with parents and community members relevant to program development
• Meet behavioral needs of students
• Work effectively with behaviorally and /or emotionally challenged children
• Manage appropriately a resource room/special education classroom
• Program and provide instruction for students with a wide range of disabilities
• Implement and manage a system of accountability
• Coordinate communication activities with parents, students, support staff, and school personnel
• Supervise paraprofessionals
• Possess and practice strong interpersonal skills with a wide variety of people both inside and outside the organization (staff,
  parents, community members, other agencies)
• Be a positive team builder who works in a collaborative manner
• Meet multiple demands in pressure situations and maintain high levels of quality work
• Maintain confidentiality
• Communicate clearly, orally and in writing
• Regularly demonstrate professionalism in appearance, actions, decisions, and overall performance
• Work with minimal supervision and be flexible
• Perform other related duties as assigned

TERMS OF CONTRACT:
• Salary:                           State Salary Schedule (depending upon level of education and experience)
• Length of Contract:               .5 FTE, continuing contract
• Leaves/Benefits:                  As per district policy
