The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit, Metro Youth YMCA Branch, is seeking an energetic, responsible and caring individual
to serve as a College Access Coordinator. Candidates should be enthusiastic; self-starters who fit into the YMCA’s asset
building program team, with pride in seeing young people grow. The coordinator will be responsible for assisting the Metro
Youth College Access Network, (MYCAN) with coordinating college preparatory and career exposure initiatives for youth in
grades 9 – 12. The person is friendly, carries a role model image, and can engage young people in activities that promote
academic and personal success. The College Access Coordinator’s primary focus is to assist MYCAN with increasing the
post secondary education attainment of youth in targeted communities: 60% by 2025

   be dedicated to positive youth development
   have strong interpersonal skills with adults and youth
   carry a role model image and exude confidence in all young people
   have the ability to work independently
   possess some experience in event planning, project management and accessing community resources
   place emphasis on quality
   communicate effectively verbally, electronically and written (basic business writing)
   engage young people in activities that build character and educational preparedness
   be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Access)
   utilize efficient time-management
   have an associate degree or equivalent, a BA is preferred
   Possess reliable transportation
   Complete and pass all security and clearances

   Recruitment, registration and retention of program participants
   Coordinating academic, career and life-coaching for program participants
   Recruitment, placement and supervision of program volunteers
   Serve as staff liaison to MCYAN/ Plan and facilitate pertinent committee meetings
   Ensuring satisfaction of customers/stakeholders (parents, students, volunteers, partners/funders)
   Maintaining regular contact with program participants and parents, both written & verbal
   Facilitating student/parent/volunteer workshops
   Working collaboratively with the MYY Branch Team
   Attending all required staff meetings, and trainings in youth development ( YMCA will incur cost)
   Obtaining a chauffeurs license (YMCA will incur cost)
   Assuming responsibility for performance outcomes and reporting
