Two Way Radios
Each work station will be assigned a radio. Student workers are expected to
maintain professional communication over the radio. You will be able to hear radio
conversations from the Dedmon Center. We use a number system for quick reference
and it is imperative that each station has a radio at all times. The radios are NEVER
to be left unattended.

When you talk on the radio, press and hold down the button on the left hand side of
radio to call the appropriate person. When talking speak clearly into the radio and
when you are finished release the button to hear what the other person has to say on
the radio.

       Guide

               # 32 Night Manager
               # 33 Fitness Center
               # 34 Gym
               # 35 Aerobics
               # 36 Rover

               Proper radio talk:
 Use your # and then the # you are calling. (Example: 32 to
33: that means the night manager is calling the fitness
                         center)
 10/4 – use at the end of conversation so you know that
                         both parties understand.
 10/20- use this to ask where someone is located.

Here is an example of a proper conversation over the radio:
                      Fitness Center: 33 to 32
                      Night Manager: 32 go ahead
Fitness Center: What is your 10/20?
Night Manager: I am in the gym.
Fitness Center: Can you come back to the fitness center?
Night Manager: I am on my way.
                      Fitness Center: 10/4

                                                                                      8

When working station 1, you may be asked to answer the phone. When the night
manager leaves the office and is out of range, they will tell you were they are going
and leave the phone. Please be formal and polite. The way we would like you to
answer the phone is:

Peters Hall Fitness Center, how may I help you?
If you need to find someone say:
               One moment please.
If you can not find them ask:
Ask for their name and number. Write it down and give to the
       manager when they return.

Always be as helpful as you can. Most of the questions asked, the answers can be
found in Station 1 folder. Phone numbers, aerobics schedule, hours, and what you
don’t know ask the manager on duty over the radio.

                                                                                        10

                                                                                      11
Contracts and Schedules
Contracts are issued through Financial Aid. The usual contract is for 180
hours per semester (Maymester 27 hours, Summer I and II 45 hours, and
Summer III 90hours). Student workers are required to complete all of their
scheduled hours each semester. Failure to work hours scheduled may result
     in termination of employment.

Schedules are assigned for a month at a time. Student workers will be notified
of upcoming scheduling and will be asked to submit a request for days off for
the month. Student workers may request weekdays off and one day during the
weekend there team is scheduled. The sheet for “Days Off” is located in the
“Sign-In” book. A worker may not request an entire weekend that their team is
scheduled to work. It is the responsibility to find another worker to switch
with. Once the schedule is done, changes will not be made. It is the student
worker’s responsibility to find a replacement for them if they can’t work and
fill out the change of schedule form documenting the switch. These forms are
     found in the “Sign-in” book.

Student workers will be scheduled for approximately 36 hours per pay period.
A student worker that falls behind in hours due to requesting off or missed
work will make up those hours on weekends (F, Sa, or Su shifts). That student
will need to talk to the Recreation Supervisor before the 20th of the month
prior to the next schedule. The Recreation Supervisor will schedule all make
up hours the last weekend of classes.

Coming to work late or failing to report to work will not be tolerated. If student
worker is a 'no show' without notice 2 times, immediate termination may
result. Every three tardies equals one no show. IMPORTANT: If you are calling
to report an absence, you must speak to the manager on duty. EXCUSED
ABSENCE: Medical illness and Death in the family are deemed excused
absences. Peters Hall staff reserves the right to request medical excuses and
other types of documentation of absences. Social events, including fraternity
or sorority events and intramural’s WILL NOT be considered a legitimate
     excuse to miss work.

Please be aware that all instances of being tardy or not showing will be
recorded in your file. If a situation arises and you are unable to be at work, you
must notify the night manager at least one day in advance. If you are unable
to reach a manager, please leave a message on the answering machine at
831-6157 in the office and a manager will contact you.

Each student worker will be required to work at 4 to 6 weekend shifts (2 shifts
Friday through Sunday) per semester. “Teams” of student workers will be
determined and posted with the weekends that they will be scheduled to
work. If you are not able to work that weekend, you are responsible for finding
a person to switch weekends with you.

                                                                                    12

room while keeping people away from mirrors and windows. Then fill C041, followed by overflow
patrons to hallways away from windows. NO ONE IN ATRUIM / CLIMBING WALL AREA or C040
due to sky lights and glass.

2. Seek shelter immediately in a basement if available. If you don't have a basement, move to the
lowest floor possible. Seek refuge in interior hallways, doorways, a closet or bathroom near the
center of the building or under heavy furniture. In high rise buildings move as far down as possible.
Do not use elevators. Go to interior small rooms or halls. Stay away from exterior walls or glassy
areas.

3... Cover your head with your hands and arms and protect your body with a heavy rug or blanket
to provide protection from flying debris. Stay away from doors, windows, shelves, and heavy
equipment. Do not open windows. Opening windows to equalize pressure is ineffective in reducing
damage and only wastes time.

4. Do not seek shelter in mobile classrooms. Avoid places with wide span roofs such as
auditoriums, cafeterias, gymnasiums, and sports centers. The entire roof is supported solely by the
outside walls. Get into an interior restroom away from windows
