                                     19 September 2001
Mars, Inc., the candy manufacturer, claims that the distribution of colors in plan M&M's is:
Brown (30%), Yellow (20%), Red (20%), Green (10%), Orange (10%) and Tan (10%) [Note:
before blue came on the scene …]. Dr. Schaefer decided to examine this claim and kept track of
the each color of M&M's in vending machine sized packets of Plain M&M's. [He did this during
an exceptionally exciting period of time in 1994.] The data is stored in a file called LAB 55
DATA on the server [CASASERVER5 > USERS > MST > MSTLAB > SCHAEFRL > STA
600 > DATA FILES FOR LABS].

Does this evidence support Mars' claim of color proportions?
Based upon these data, how many M&Ms can you expect to get in each bag? How many of each
color?
