Wear Technology Expands Gearbox Rebuilding to Meet
Increasing Customer Needs
Expert service lowers lead time, saves money, improves gearbox life
McPherson, Kan. – Wear Technology, a division of Milacron’s Aftermarket group, is expanding
its gearbox rebuilding services, saving North American customers time and money while
improving the life of their extrusion equipment.
The gearbox rebuilding service, which saves customers up to 50 percent compared to the cost
of buying new, fills a void in the market left by the many rebuilding service providers that have
left the business or moved overseas.
By turning to Wear Technology, customers get shorter lead times because they don’t have to
send gearboxes back to original equipment manufacturers, most of which are located overseas.
And because many customers already turn to the company for high-quality replacement
extrusion barrels and screws, they can now get all the major components to an extruder –
screws, barrels and gearboxes – from one convenient and proven provider.
“Adding gearbox rebuilds is another example of how the Milacron companies focus on being the
most complete partner we can for our customers,” said Wayne Parish, Manager of Wear
Technology. “From customer feedback, we know they’re looking for a domestic supplier they
can count on for cost-effective gearbox rebuilds. Coming to us also assures them they’ll get the
quick turnaround and maximum quality they need.”
Wear Technology has rebuild capability for both single- and twin-screw machines. To support
the growth of this service, the company has invested in new testing equipment, fixtures and
presses and hired experienced machinists and gearbox rebuild technicians.
The biggest investment has been in inventory. To reduce lead times, Wear Technology is
working with suppliers to ensure the proper inventory of bearings, which is particularly important
since some bearings are only manufactured once a year. The company also has established a
gearbox trade-in program to increase inventory, as well.
