Race day details-Barton Marina Open Water Sprint
You should receive an email confirming entry within a few minutes if entering online and
within a few days if postal.
Directions to Barton Marina
Leave M1 at J28 and take A38 south. Four miles past Burton-on-Trent, turn off for Barton-
under-Needwood. Brown sign for Barton Marina first left after ½ mile.
Leave M1 at J19 and take M6 to J4. Take A446 until it joins A38 and 8 miles north of
Lichfield turn off at Barton-under-Needwood.
Leave M6 at J15 and keep on A50 until turning off for A38. Travel 10 miles south and turn
off at Barton-under-Needwood.
Leave M5 at J4a for M42 and continue until coming off at J9. Take A446 until it joins A38
and 8 miles north of Lichfield turn off at Barton-under-Needwood.
On entering the marina you will be directed onto the event car park, which is free.
BTF rules and regulations
Chaserace advise that you should familiarise yourselves with the BTF rules and regulations
which can be found on the BTF website http://www.britishtriathlon.org/
Getting penalised on race day and not knowing the rules is “no excuse”.
If you cannot produce your BTF license at registration you will be charged £3 for a day
Registration opens at 6am and closes at 7.15am.
Do not leave it to the last 5 minutes to register.
At registration you will receive an envelope containing your race numbers, pins. You will
also receive an event T-shirt if you have ordered one. You will then be given a timing chip
and strap. And finally you will be marked with your race number on your leg and arm.
Chase race are investing in the use of a state of the art chip timing to ensure the most
accurate timing, splits and category position. Which will be updated live on a projector
screen in the registration tent.
The transponder you receive at registration must be fitted around your ankle. DO NOT fit
transponder to your wrist as it will not work and will affect the result of your timing.
Only cross the timing mats during the event and do not re cross the finish line mat after you
have completed the course.
All athletes will be briefed close to the swim start at 7.40am. All athletes
must attend this briefing.
You will complete one 750m lap of the lake. The course will be clearly marked with buoys.
Each wave will be lead off with a canoe. If you get into any difficulties you must roll onto
your back and raise your arm and a canoeist will attend and recovery you to the side of the
lake where you can get treatment. If you seem to be struggling or taking an inordinate
amount of time to complete the course you may be removed from the lake.
It is the competitor’s responsibility to understand the bike course and know where they are
going prior to event. There will be a marshal and signage at each major junction. Marshals
cannot stop traffic by law so do not expect to be waved through at junctions.
You must follow the highway code at all times, any deviation could lead to time penalties
or a DQ.
Special note: At either end of Barton under Needwood village there are traffic-calming
measures that we cannot control. You must give way to any oncoming traffic.

This is a non-drafting event and will be marshalled by motorbike referees.
There is a detailed explanation at registration explaining how the drafting rule works. You
can also view these rules on the BTF website. Understand the rule, as ignorance is no
BSI, ANSI or Snell approved hard shell helmets will be compulsory and must be worn
throughout the event. Your helmet must be fastened before removing you bike from the
racking and must not be removed until you bike has been placed back in the racking.
Exit marina complex via exit road.
turn left toward main road.
turn left onto B5016 and head into Barton under Needwood village.
Use caution through village, as there will be parked cars.
start descent into Yoxall village. Fast descents toward village please use caution.
turn left onto A515 and head out of Yoxall village.
turnaround at island and head back into Yoxall village.
turn left onto B5016 and climb out of Yoxall village.
enter Barton under Needwood village.
Use caution through village, as there will be parked cars.
exit Barton under Needwood village.
turnaround at island and head back toward marina complex.
turn left off main road then immediately right into marina complex.
The run course will comprise of two laps of the lakes to make up the 5km course. It is your
responsibility to know where you are going to have to go on exiting T2. That said there will
be marshals on hand and signage to show the way. A detailed map can be found on the
website and in registration. You will collect an elastic band at the far turnaround point so
you will end up with two bands to hand back at the finish.
I must remind you that we will be sharing the site with the general public and to that end
we would request the you the competitor treat the public, event marshals and other
competitors with the utmost respect.
Any use of profanity or aggression towards any of the above parties will result in an
immediate Dq and also a ban from all future Chaserace events.
The prize giving will take place within 30mins of the last competitor finishing and will take
place adjacent to the finish area.
Awards and prizes will be given to the following.1st 2nd and 3rd place male and female and
the following age group categories both male and female. 15-16, 17-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-
34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+.
Provisional results will be available on the day, with full results posted on the chaserace
website on the Monday after the event.
