									       HOW CAN PARENTS HELP?
                     BEFORE THE TEST

Look over your child’s homework on a daily basis and reinforce
the importance of:
       1. Writing in complete sentences
       2. “Restating” the question in their answer
       3. Numbering multi-step questions
       4. Rereading questions or portions of the reading
sample BEFORE or DURING the answering of
          questions
       5. Participating in Before & After School
          Academic Help Sessions, when available

Encourage your child to:
        1. Read comics, magazines, newspapers, books, etc.
        2. Tell you what they’ve read in their books,
           magazines, comics, etc.
        3. Write thank you notes, emails to friends, grocery
lists, journals about family vacations, etc.
        4. Compare and contrast things in his/her
environment, price of a meal, television shows
that you watch, movies that you see, etc.
ON THE DAY OF THE TEST

 Make sure your student gets a good night’s
   sleep!
 Provide a good breakfast of protein enriched
   “brain” food!
 Provide your student with a fresh supply of
   #2 pencils!
 Alleviate test anxiety by reinforcing previous
   preparations!
 BE POSITIVE - Tell your student you KNOW they will do
   well!
 Remind your student that you’ll be proud of them for
   putting forth their BEST EFFORT!
