ELEMENTARY GYM th Cost: $60.00 per year
The Elementary Gym, located at 416 9 Avenue in Sibley, is a great place to get in shape all year around. Any time that
school is not in session, and there isn’t a Recreation Program going on, members can bring their families in to walk, shoot
baskets, or just run around and play in the gym. Students must be at least a freshman in High School before they can use
the key without parental supervision. Membership keys are available for purchase at the Superintendent’s office located at
the S-O High School. The membership fee is $60.00 per year. You can download a Membership Application form on our
website at www.rec.sibleyiowa.net, click on the memberships tab, and then “Elementary Gym Membership Application”
highlighted in orange. If you have any questions, please call the Superintendent’s office at the S-O High School for more
information about memberships.
HOOPS FOR HEART Cost: FREE
Open to the Public Friday, February 3rd Time: 4:30-9pm Location: SO High School
ISU Extension and Outreach of Osceola County and the Osceola Community Hospital are partnering up with SO Schools to
present Hoops for Heart. A program dedicated to promoting heart healthy activities and education with your family during
National Heart Health Month! The program will feature 5 min. massages, blood pressure stations, and an opportunity for
Sibley residents to pledge their support in helping Sibley become a Blue Zone Community.
4-H ICE FISHING CLINIC Cost: FREE
Open to the Public Saturday, February 18 Time: 9am-12pm Location: Willow Creek
Learn about safety, fish types, how to tie fishing knots and go fishing! This event is Free and includes a simple lunch.

SPOT SHOT CONTEST Cost: FREE
Age Groups: 7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13 (age is determined as of Feb. 25, 2012)
Date: Saturday, February 25th Start Time: 9am Location: Elementary Gym
The Sibley Kiwanis and Sibley Rec. Dept. will be sponsoring the Iowa Parks and Recreation Spot Shot contest. There are
four separate age divisions for boys and girls. Players have 60 seconds to see how many shots they can make from seven
designated spots on the gym floor. Each participant will receive a participant award. The top 2 finishers in each age/gender
division will advance to the state finals to be held at the Grinnell Athletic & Recreation Center on March 17. Note – New
age division – 7 year olds! Volunteer helpers are needed.
OPEN GYM Cost: FREE
Grades: 3rd-8th Dates: Feb. 20th & Mar. 16th Times: 1-3pm Location: Elementary Gym
The Elementary gym will be open and supervised on the above dates for students in grades 3rd-8th.
4-H FAMILY CARNIVAL Cost: No Entry Fee
Open to the Public Saturday, March 24th Time: 6:30-8:30pm Location: Sibley Legion Hall
The 4-H Clubs will be hosting a fun filled carnival that is open to the public. Join us for carnival games, prizes, and food to
purchase. Tickets for the carnival games will cost $1 per ticket. All proceeds go to the 4-H clubs involved.
AFTER SCHOOL SPORTS
Grades: 1 -4th Dates: Tuesdays, Feb. 14, 21, 28, Mar. 6, 13, 20 Location: Elementary Gym
Instructor: Chris Sontag Time: 3:30-4:15pm (1st-2nd Grade) 4:15-5:00pm (3rd-4th Grade)
Beat the winter blues and come to the Elementary gym and play hockey, indoor soccer, or learn how to frisbee golf. If
weather permitting, hockey may be played at the Central Park ice rink. Parent volunteers are needed to help Chris with
the younger children. Please sign up if you are able to help.
BOWLING Cost: $26.00
Grades: K-6th Time: 3:30-5pm Location: Merry Lanes in Sibley
Instructor: Breck Wasmund Dates: Mondays, Feb. 13, 27, Mar. 5, 12, 19
Come to the Merry Lanes bowling alley in Sibley, to learn basic bowling skills while playing games. Bumpers are used if
needed. The cost includes your shoe rental. Registration is limited to 32 kids so sign up early! Parent volunteers are
welcome to come and help the younger kids.
DODGEBALL Cost: $10.00
Grades 3rd - 6th Time: 6-7pm Location: Elementary Gym
Dates: Tuesdays, Feb. 14, 21, 28, Mar. 6, 13, 20
Do you know the five "D's" of Dodgeball? Dodgeball teams will be co-ed and evenly divided for play. We will be using
the Champro 8.5" no-sting, fabric covered dodge balls so the youth are able to enjoy the game, pain free. Rules will be
enforced primarily by the "honor system". All games will be supervised by a court monitor. Parent volunteers are
needed to be court monitors. Please sign up if you are able to be a monitor.
TAE KWON DO Cost: $16.00
Ages: 4-13 year olds Dates: Thursdays, Feb. 9, 16, 23, Mar. 1, 8 Location: Elementary Gym
Times: 3:30-4:15pm (7-13 year old group) 4:15-4:45pm (4-6 year old group)
Instructor: Stacy Grunow
Stacy Grunow will be offering Tae Kwon Do classes to all area youth ages 4-13. Give your child a head start and a new
way of life through martial arts education. Children will gain focus, self-confidence, self-respect, and discipline while
burning off excess energy. Sign up today!
CHESS Cost: $10.00

Jodene Kruse is hosting a Chess Club for all students and adults in the Sibley and surrounding areas to spark an interest in
this game of skill and strategy. All Chess players are invited to renew their passion to play the game. Please join Jodene at
the Sibley Pizza Ranch on Sundays, beginning January 29th. There will be a parents meeting on Jan 29th to discuss
starting a Sibley Chess Team. Tournaments will be every month, there is an extra $2.00 charge for participation in the
tournaments. (Open to others who do not come on a regular basis).

PHOTOGRAPHY Cost: $10.00 per student or

Time: 9:00-11:00am Location: Kelcey Schroder Photography Studio, 243 9 th Street, Sibley
Required materials to bring to class: digital camera (with a charged battery) and the user’s manual. Kelcey Schroder will
help you learn more about your digital camera and its settings, and how to create better images on a variety of subjects.
You will learn composition skill, different types and styles of photography, and basic digital editing skills. Kelcey
encourages participants to come prepared with specific questions about photography, the camera, or how to take or create a
WOMENS ADULT VOLLEYBALL Cost: $5.00 per person

Jessica Thiner is forming a women’s adult volleyball league. Whether you are an experienced volleyball player, or a
recreational player, we invite you to come out, get some exercise, and have fun. Team and/or individual participants are
encouraged to register. Teams will be finalized on February 2 nd. Please register prior to February 1 st. If you have any
