                                 Redfield Lions Club
The Redfield Lions Club held their May dinner meeting Monday May 14th at the Redfield City
Hall. This month’s club chefs were Linda and Dave Lantz. Hats off to them for a delicious
meal!

Special guest speaker this month was Lee Irwin of Adel, local manager of the Heartland CO-
OP, who gave an interesting and informative talk about our local co-op. They have 6 full time
and 2 part time employees and they do 20 to 25 million dollars’ worth of grain per year. 99%
of all of the corn goes to the Menlo ethanol plant, which uses 100,000 bushels of corn per day.
The bunker pile holds 600,000 bushels and takes 8 days to clean out, and the new south bins
hold 375,000 bushels. He also stated that it’s very rare that all the bins are empty by harvest
time. They try very hard to please the community by noise, dust and rodent control and by
keeping grounds neat clean and mowed.

The usual business meeting was held afterward with 14 members present. Old and new
business was discussed. The next meeting will be Tuesday, May 29th because of the Memorial
holiday.

The club would like to thank everyone who has come out for the Thursday night Bingo. So far
it has been a great success, but there is plenty of room for more! So remember the 2nd and
4th Thursday all summer, right after the Farmers Market, come on down to the air conditioned
Legion Hall for a relaxing game of Bingo!

We would also like to remind everyone the Lions are selling various items plus raffle tickets for
the shot gun and the flag from the USS IOWA every Saturday morning during the Legion
breakfast. And again THANK YOU for all of your support!
