LEAN SUMMARY St. Anthony Hospital 11-22-10 The St. Anthony Team decided to look at the process of patients coming to Day Surgery and being prepared to go into the operating room for their scheduled surgery. There are many steps in the process and any delay in moving patients through this process can delay surgery and decrease satisfaction for the patient, family and physician and increase manpower costs. In observing the Day Surgery patient process, it was noted the nurses search for the patient’s history and physical form (a requirement to have on the chart before the patient goes to surgery). Other delays noted were: delay in getting anesthesia orders and at times other test results. We do not have the time and financial information calculated yet, we are gathering more observations before doing that part. The frontline staff tell us they can make up to 5 telephone calls in trying to locate the H&P. They also noticed a bottleneck when anesthesia, OR staff, the chaplain, and the surgeon are all trying to see the patient at close to the same time right before surgery.
