NO. R-71. JOINT RESOLUTION IN MEMORY OF RUBY MURIN GAINES. (J.R.H. 49) Offered by: Representative Houston of Ferrisburg Whereas, Ruby Murin Gaines was reared in West Virginia, and Whereas, after graduating from the Metropolitan Hospital School of Nursing in New York City as a registered nurse, she remained at the Metropolitan Hospital where she was an instructor in operating room procedure, and Whereas, before settling in Vermont, Ruby Murin Gaines had the challenging medical assignment of managing the first aid station at the Bronx Zoo in New York, and Whereas, after marrying Allen Gaines, she settled in Vergennes, where for many years she was the successful proprietor of the Gaines Real Estate Agency, and Whereas, Ruby Murin Gaines enthusiastically devoted many volunteer hours to the Vergennes United Methodist Church where, among other activities, she was a leader in the women’s auxiliary and a dedicated summer bible school instructor who loved teaching young children, and Whereas, she derived great joy from her beautiful rose garden that was the result of her patient horticultural attention, and Whereas, Ruby Murin Gaines’ sincerity and caring were a hallmark of her life, and VT LEG 110140.1 NO. R-71 Page 2 Whereas, she will be truly missed by her husband Allen, her sons Theodore, Gary, Joe and Scott, her daughters Donna and Linda, her three grandchildren and her friends and neighbors in Vergennes, now therefore be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives: That the General Assembly extends its condolences to the family and many friends of Ruby Murin Gaines on the occasion of her passing, and be it further Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Allen Gaines in Vergennes.
