					Performance Management in Schools
From the 1st of September 2007 the new performance management
regulations came into force, all schools have a statutory responsibility to
implement performance management for teaching staff. It is in any case good
practice to support professional development, and to recognise colleagues’
achievements through a formal PM process, and many schools have
extended this practice to include support staff. Headteacher performance
management is undertaken by Governor Reviewers supported by an LA
appointed School Improvement Partner (SIP).

The new arrangements refocus the 2001 arrangements; they are designed to
be less bureaucratic and streamlined. The idea is that they will contribute to
raising standards and tackling workload and at the same time being
transparent, fair and consistent. The arrangements are the unique in giving
teachers a legal entitlement to performance management and school focused
CPD, with which the reviewee must engage.

This guidance is designed to help schools engender effective performance
management and provide access to the documentation and support materials
that support effective performance management arrangements at school
level.

 Guidance on PM and Threshold applications
As most schools will be aware all the evidence for Threshold now comes form
2 years of evidence from performance management and there is no form for
application the individual simply needs to make the school aware they wish to
be considered by the 31st October in the given school year, anyone on M6 can
apply.
