What is ADA?

    Every Day Counts!
• The state of California funds school
  districts based on student attendance,
known as Average Daily Attendance (ADA).

• Beginning July 1, 1998 school districts no
longer receive funding from the state of
California for students that are absent
from school. This includes all absences.

                     Every Day Counts!
 How is ADA computed?
• ADA is calculated by dividing the total
number of days of student attendance by
the number of days of instruction

• The period that is used to calculate ADA
is from July 1st to April 15th

                    Every Day Counts!
Example:

 •Maria has perfect attendance
     180 days attended ÷ 180 days instruction = 1.0 ADA

•Johnny attended 171 days of the
  180 days of instruction
     171 days attended ÷ 180 days of instruction = .94
     ADA

                          Every Day Counts!
 How Does ADA Generate
       Revenue?
• Revenue Limit:
 • Maria’s attendance generated $4,985
   1.0 ADA X $4,985 revenue limit per ADA = $4,985

 • Johnny’s attendance generated $4,690
   .94 ADA X $4,985 revenue limit per ADA = $4,690

                   Every Day Counts!
Every day a student misses school he
gets more than two days behind his
peers because he must make up
missed learning and catch up with
new learning at the same time.

               Every Day Counts!
