Job purpose: To supervise whole classes during the short term absence of
the class teacher under the guidance of the Curriculum
Leader including implementing work programmes, managing
student behaviour and assisting in relevant activities in line
with the school’s policies and procedures.
To supervise students undertaking work, during the short-term absence of the
classroom teacher, which has been set in accordance with school policy.
To manage student behaviour and deal promptly with conflict and incidents in line
with established school policy.
To deal effectively with any immediate problems or emergencies according to the
school’s policies and procedures.
To return the work completed by students to the appropriate teacher and feedback
on any behavioural or other issues, using the school’s agreed referral procedures.
To monitor and evaluate students’ responses to learning activities through
observation and recording of achievement and provide feedback / reports as
To use ICT effectively to support learning activities and develop students’
competence and independence in its use.
To liaise sensitively and effectively with parents / carers as agreed with the teacher.
To undertake activities as directed by the teacher, with whole classes, individuals or
small groups of students.

away and care of resources to create a purposeful and attractive learning

To support teachers in selecting and preparing teaching resources that meet

To accept shared responsibility for the creation of a safe environment for students
within and outside the classroom and comply with the appropriate policies and
procedures, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
To invigilate internal and external examinations under the supervision of the

Manager/ Resources Manager/ Key Stage Learning Managers during busy periods.

BASIC JOB PURPOSE
Supervise whole classes of pupils and ensure that set work is completed in the absence
of the teacher. Cover is provided for the short-term absence of teaching staff so that an
effective and tailored school policy to cover is delivered.
1 Supervise pupils who are undertaking work that has been set in accordance with
the school policy so that teaching and learning continues.
2 Manage the behaviour of pupils whilst they are undertaking their work to ensure
a constructive environment.
3 Respond to any questions from pupils about process and procedures so they can
continue with their set work.
4 Deal with any immediate problems or emergencies in accordance with the
school’s policies and procedures to ensure that pupil/employee safety is assured.
5 Collect any completed work after lessons to ensure it is returned to the relevant
member of the teaching staff.
6 Report back, using the school's agreed referral procedures, on the behaviour of
pupils during class and any issues arising so that the relevant member of the
teaching staff is fully aware of the situation.
