5.0 HARD DISK DRIVES
Hard Disk Drive (HDD) is a magnetic data storage device that is
connected to the motherboard via IDE or SATA cable. They are capable of
storing more data than the flash, zip or floppy drives. They are platforms that
allow the operating system of various vendors to be installed on the
computer system.

A typical hard disk drive has two electric motors; a disk motor that
spins the disks and an actuator (motor) that positions the read/write head
assembly across the spinning disks. Hard Disk drives have capacities that
range from as low as 10GB to about 2TB.
