P.O. Box 8102
Chicago, IL 60680

Dear President-Elect Obama:

On behalf of the 24,000 members of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), I
congratulate you on your historic and successful campaign for the White House. We look forward to your
new administration and offer our assistance and access to the vast association and nonprofit communities
as you begin to address the pressing issues facing our nation.

Your campaign was an inspiration to millions of Americans and addressed the issues that resonated with
them – health care, tax reform, and the economy. As you stated in your Chicago speech on Election Day,
“the road ahead will be long, and our climb will be steep.” We agree that the next four years will be a
challenging time for this country, but we are optimistic about the future.

Please know that the collective association community and nonprofit sector, especially ASAE, have much
to offer your new administration, the 111th Congress, and the American people, and we hope that we will
be an integral resource for your administration in the upcoming term. Associations permeate every aspect
of American life – ASAE members work for 10,000 associations that represent 287 million Americans.
ASAE member associations are found in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and fifty countries
worldwide. Association executives, staff, and volunteers work together cohesively on association
management issues at the national, state, and local level to enable all tax-exempt organizations to fulfill
their tax-exempt purpose. That purpose is expressed through professional development and skills
training, publications, credentialing, research, and charitable and community service.

ASAE and the entire nonprofit sector join in the effort to address the immediate and long-term challenges
America faces. As you said in Chicago on Election Day, “let us summon a new spirit of patriotism; of
service and responsibility where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only
ourselves, but each other.” We are ready to answer that call and work with your administration and the
111th Congress to ensure a prosperous future for America.
