Galileo Low Cost Air launches in New Zealand, delivering more air content and a
wider choice of low cost fares
Sydney, 17 December 2007, Galileo, part of Travelport GDS, one of the world’s largest
global distribution system (GDS) providers, has now made its Galileo Low Cost Air solution
available to agents in New Zealand.
The ‘all-in-one’ low cost air solution, developed for the Pacific region, searches low cost
carrier websites as well as the core GDS to find the lowest fares and availability for
domestic and trans-Tasman travel. Now, agents in New Zealand will be able to take
advantage of Galileo Low Cost Air’s ability to search the Websites of Virgin Blue, Jetstar
Airways and Freedom Air for flights departing from local airports, such as Auckland,
Wellington and Christchurch.
Search results and bookings are generated from a single sign on and displayed on a single
screen for easy comparison. Fares include pre-payable taxes, surcharges and credit card
fees, increasing transparency in the fare quoting process.
“Galileo Low Cost Air will enable local travel agents to reduce the time they currently spend
searching numerous individual websites, and will also deliver major efficiencies in the
search and fare quoting process,” said David Saunders, Galileo’s acting managing director,
Since launching in Australia in 2006, 480 agents have registered to use Galileo Low Cost
Air, which has evolved to include even more air content and choice of fare. In addition to
trans-Tasman routes, agents can now also view non-GDS fare search results from selected
European, Asian and South African low cost carriers including Ryanair, easyJet, BMI Baby,
Aer Lingus, Jet2.com, Jetstar International, Air Asia and two South Africa based airlines,
Kulula and 1time.
Galileo has also optimized its connection method to improve shopping and booking on
selected low cost carrier websites that often experience high levels of Internet traffic.
Another benefit is the integration of Galileo Low Cost Air’s booking details into Galileo’s mid
back office solution, Cross Check Travel, which means agents using these products gain
the efficiencies of a streamlined workflow.
In addition to this expanded search capability, a complimentary Service Fee module has
been introduced to help local agents manage their service fee pricing. This new module is
best suited to less complex fee management and provides an alternative to Galileo Fee
Manager which handles the more complex fee structures often required by large travel
