									Shibboleth 2 Migration Plan

Work plan:

May
* Test installation of Shibboleth 2 IdP on a virtual machine in order
to start understanding components and configuration
* Hardware delivery and racking
* Operating System installation (N.B. May need Ubuntu 64-bit kernel)
* Attend implementation workshop
* Shibboleth 2 software installation on both servers

June
* Shibboleth 2 configuration and basic testing.
* Investigate 'high-availability' option. This is quite different to
that used in Shibboleth 1, and makes use of the 'terracotta' clustering
package.

July
* Load testing using Moodle and possibly other applications. Moodle
will be tested using both LDAP and Shibboleth so that the performance
can be compared.
(N.B. This will need help from Pete Castle and Rachel's section.
Objectives:
i)Check whether Shibboleth can handle the load (eg. 100 concurrent
logins) and is reliable. ii)Confirm whether Moodle can handle the
anticipated load for next term; iii)Find the limits of our current
implementation.

August
* Migrate to Shibboleth 2.

Assumptions:
This is dependent on there being no major problems or technical issues
with Shibboleth 2.
