Dr. Brian Bennett Former Principal, Blessed Sacrament Parish School A renown education advocate, Dr. Bennett is credited with boosting enrollment at Blessed Sacrament Parish School during his tenure as principal from 1979 to 1997. Since then, he has pursued his lifelong passion for quality education. A vocal proponent of vouchers and charter schools, Dr. Bennett was Director of the Office of School Choice for the San Diego Unified School District from 2003 to 2006. He then joined the National Association of Charter School Authorizers, where he is currently a Senior Associate. Today, Dr. Bennett is fighting for a new cause – educating the public about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, with which he was diagnosed in 2006. One of five children, Dr. Bennett attended Catholic schools all his life. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in English and a law degree from what is now Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. His wife of 36 years, Jeanine, teaches eighth grade at Blessed Sacrament Parish School, and their two daughters, Monica and Annie, are both Blessed Sacrament graduates.
