AGGANIS RECOGNITION AWARDS

 The 3rd Annual “MAZ AWARD” presented in his honor to a
Men’s Division player who displays the passion, courage and
competitive spirit while conducting oneself with fair play and
sportsmanship on and off the court, as in the manner by which
     George performed.

During the finals on Sunday evening, George along with his
wife Cynthia, relatives and friends will be present when the
“MAZ” Award is announced. George, who is fighting a battle
with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), will also be joined by
members of the Angel Fund with whom George and Cynthia
have worked tirelessly on their behalf to raise awareness and
funding to help research in finding a cure for ALS. The Harry
Agganis Basketball Tournament Committee will again this
year, donate a portion of the proceeds from this year’s
tournament to the Angel Fund on George’s behalf.

 The 2nd Annual “Agganis Trophy”
“The Gregory A. Fanikos Memorial Trophy” Awarded to the
High School Division Champions of the Harry Agganis
NHIBT. This “Agganis Trophy”, sponsored by the family of
Gregory A. Fanikos, who was a life long member of St. George,
is to be presented to the Championship Team’s Church parish.
Members of the Harry Agganis Basketball Tournament
Committee will travel with the trophy and present it during a
Sunday Divine Liturgy. The trophy will remain as recognition
at the Church for viewing until the following years
     tournament.

In 2007 the trophy was presented to the St. George Cathedral
     Team of Manchester, NH.
This trophy is the St. George version of the Stanley Cup of the
     National Hockey League.
 “New” – “The Pastor’s Award”
In 1998, the Agganis Basketball Tournament Committee in its
effort to continue its duty of perpetuating the Harry Agganis
Tourney established a 6-team High School Division to go along
with the Men’s Division. The hope was to introduce local
Greek Orthodox Church GOYA teams to the “Harry” and
foster a feeder system for the future. This year we wish to
celebrate a 10 year success story and will be featuring 12
    teams.

“The Pastor’s Award” – sponsored by Rev. Fr. George D.
Tsoukalas, Protopresbyter of our beloved St. George Greek
Orthodox Church, will be presented to a High School Division
participant who displays competitive spirit, while conducting
himself with sportsmanship and fair play on and off the court.
This award, established this year in 2008, will be presented
    annually.
