Nervous System Disorders Project
For this project, you will research a disorder related to the nervous system. You will present
your research as a poster, including a summary of your research and visuals to complement
your summary.
Procedure:
1. Select a topic
A list of suggested topics is included
You may choose another topic with prior approval
2. Research your topic
Use at least 5 reference materials (books, journals, websites)
Wikipedia is NOT an acceptable reference
Include citations for the references used in your summary
3. Write a summary of your research
Length should not exceed 1 page
Information you may want to include:
o A description of the disorder
o What causes the disorder
o Symptoms
o What part of the nervous system is affected
o How it is diagnosed
o How it is treated
o Who is at risk for the disorder
o How many people have it, famous people who had it
o What is the prognosis (expected outcome)
4. Select visuals to complement your summary
Photographs, graphs, drawings
Include at least 2 visuals that complement your summary
Include citations for all visuals as captions
Google images is NOT acceptable as a citation – use the original source
5. Your poster should include the following
Title
Summary page
Visuals with citation captions
At least 5 references (not including Wikipedia)
Your name on the back side of the poster
6. Please see the WMHS handbook pages 8-9 for guidelines on Academic Honesty.
Plagiarism will result in a grade of 0 for this assignment. Please see me with any questions
concerning appropriate use of reference material.
7. Your poster is due on Friday, January 29, 2010. Late projects will be accepted with
a 10 point per day deduction.
