TOO MANY SCHOOL COOKS DON'T SPOIL THE BROTH!
WHEN it comes to creating new school lunches, the School Food
Support Service has proved that you can't have too many school cooks!
An amazing 125 school cook supervisors got together at a cooking conference at
Lutterworth Sherrier Primary School - to try out new dishes for the menu which
will be introduced across Leicestershire next term.
School cooks from across Leicestershire attended the conference - with the
focus on improving techniques and skills to produce quality meals for children in
schools all over the county. This was a chance to "fine tune" their techniques
according to the requirements of the new menu.
The conference came prior to the launch of two new dishes designed by
Stapleford Park head chef, Stephen Conway. Stephen was also on hand at the
conference to give a demonstration of how to prepare the meals he created
for the School Food Support Service. These dishes will be introduced across 243
Leicestershire schools in October.
Wendy Philp of the SFSS said: “It was a fantastic day and it was really important
for the supervisors to see exactly how to prepare these meals for the children
when they are launched in October.”
Also present at the conference was Eblex – the English Beef and Lamb
Executive and Redbridge which will be providing vegetables to schools. A
dietician was also on hand to discuss nutritional standards and how they are
helping to improve the diet of children across Leicestershire.
This is all part of the School Food Support Services target of reaching a 48%
uptake for school meals across the county.
