      Invitation to……
             The ISG Smart Card Centre
                                  Open-Day

                                  Event Sponsors

Dear Sir/Madam,
You are most warmly invited to the ISG Smart Card Centre (SCC) Open-Day on
11th September 2012; which will mark the 10th anniversary of the SCC 

The pictures shown above are a selection from the open day in 2011 and a lot will
have happened at Royal Holloway before we get together again this September. One
notable and very welcome development for the SCC was the decision by the UK
Cards Association to join us as a funding Member, for at least the next three years.
The combination of Members/Associates from the mobile communications, transport
and now card payments industries provides a very solid base for our applied research.
This is also recognised by potential PhD students as we are seeing an increase in
applicants asking to study in the SCC.

The ISG has also received a major endorsement for its overall activities. It has been
recognised for its world class research in the field of cyber security by UK
intelligence agencies GCHQ. The College is one of just eight institutions to receive
Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research (ACE-CSR) status.

In June 19-22 the ISG has the honour to host: The 6th Workshop in Information
Security Theory and Practices (WISTP 2012). This is an academic conference that the
SCC helped to establish and has supported ever since. The event is swiftly followed
by the ISG Alumni reunion (June 25-27) that marks the 20th anniversary of the MSc in
information security. Throughout the summer, this year’s MSc students and ISG
supervisors will still be involved in the MSc projects, which could be a logistical
“challenge” as Royal Holloway is also being used to accommodate Olympic athletes.
However, rest assured that this will all be finished with before the SCC Open Day.
Of course we must say a big thank you to our funding supporters; Orange Labs (UK),
the UK Cards Association, Transport for London and ITSO and also to the SCC Open
Day event sponsors, which this year include Collis, Comprion, Cubic and Visa.

As usual the Open-Day acts as a relaxed networking and exhibition event for its
sponsors, supporters and industry lecturers plus honoured guests and students (some
will be looking for jobs!). The Open-Day is intended an annual event including
practical demonstrations of products and technology plus a prestige lecture from a
distinguished guest (more information, including the agenda will be made available
via www.scc.rhul.ac.uk).

I would strongly encourage you to support the Open-Day which promises to be an
interesting and enjoyable event and I look forward to welcoming you again in
September.

Yours Sincerely

Professor Keith Mayes

If any of you (or your contacts) will be bidding for funding under the European Commission
Theme 10 “Security” (or indeed any other related calls), we would be very interested in the
possibility of participating as an academic partner.
