ENG101-102 SENIOR DUAL ENROLLMENT
SUMMER READING ASSIGNMENT
HIGLEY HIGH SCHOOL 2012
WELCOME! I look forward to working with you to learn more about our wonderful language
and the authors who are masters of English. Below, you will find your summer reading
books and assignments. The more you read, the better, but I am requiring only TWO novels
for you to read. You will complete an essay assignment for one novel, while you will be tested on the
other novel within the first two weeks of school. Do not use Cliffs Notes, Spark Notes, or the like; stop
relying on the power of the internet and start relying on the power of your brain! Learn to put your ideas
into words that coherently express your thoughts. If you use an outside source such as Spark Notes, give
yourself an F for these assignments as you have not been analytical enough on the project. Your report
will be due within the first week of class. Read the entire book so you are ready for interesting and rich
class discussions as soon as school begins in August.
Please be reminded that ENG101 is college level curriculum. Students are cautioned that the work for
the essay must be original. Essay will be submitted to turnitin.com within the first two weeks of

be in MLA format and include a Works Cited page. If your essay has a 25% or higher match (including
