Postgraduate Conference Grants – Guidelines for Conferences
attended after 1st August 2012
Grants from this fund are intended to be a contribution towards the expenses incurred by registered
postgraduates in the School who present a paper at a conference. Awards are limited to a maximum
of one award per applicant, per financial year (1 Aug - 31 July).
The award for attending a conference outwith the UK is restricted to a maximum of 50% of the
actual expenses incurred by the applicant in attending the conference up to a maximum of £300.
The award for UK conferences is restricted to 50% of the expenses incurred up to a maximum of
£300, or a maximum of £200 whichever is the greater.
Expenses will only be reimbursed where receipts or other electronic proof of the expense have been
Application forms must be submitted, together with documentary evidence of participation in the
conference programme. Retrospective applications may be permitted in the same academic year.

Rules for the award
Applicants must be matriculated research postgraduate students in the School of Literatures,
Languages and Cultures.
Applicants must be attending the conference to deliver a paper. Claims for expenses where
applicants do not deliver a paper will not be considered.
Claims by students outwith the normal maximum period of study will not be considered.
Claims by students who have submitted their thesis for examination will not be considered.
Applications must include a copy of the conference programme or similar documentary
evidence of participation in the conference programme.
Applications must be accompanied by a case for support from the applicant’s supervisor.
Full receipts must be submitted.
