Dear Colleagues in Ministry,
I greet you in the Spirit of Christ Jesus! In this packet you will find the a “first draft”
Firelands District Directory, which will be updated and available in digital form as new
appointments, Compass Groups and other leadership are finalized in the coming weeks.
2012 Charge Conference Forms are now posted on the Firelands District website:
www.firelandsdistrictumc.org .The forms will look familiar, but please notice: FORMS
HAVE BEEN UPDATED IN ORDER TO BE MORE USEFUL IN OUR VITAL
CONGREGATIONS EFFORTS. PPRC Committees will need your leadership and help to
fill these forms, utilizing MissionInsite demographic information and Vital Congregation
goals. Reports specific to each local church are available on the two websites. For
expediency to assist you this year, Betty Plumb, District Administrative Assistant will
forward the two reports to the pastors of each church in July, along with instructions about
how to access these reports for yourselves in the future. It is our goal to continue to
streamline reporting processes in the effort to reduce redundant and irrelevant busywork.
May God help us all.
Please note that there will be District Clergy Gatherings this Fall, tentatively planned for
Tuesday, September 18th at Wellington UMC and Wednesday, September 19th at
Bellevue Seybert UMC, both from 9:00 A.M. – 12 P.M. The purpose will be to worship,
pray, and engage in Bible Study and reflection as we prepare for Church Conferences. I
would expect all pastors to attend one of the two days unless you notify me of an
emergency. We are in covenant together and your presence is essential for the work of
ministry in our district.
Pastor Consultations: As we prepare for individual conversations this fall, you will have
an opportunity to prepare using the revised CPA (Clergy Profile-Annual) and a Pastor
Consultation summary form. The consultation form has been filled out by the DS each year,
and this year I am asking you to give it some thought in advance of our conversation,
bringing it with you on the day of consultation. It is not additional information, but is a
summary of what you have included on the revised CPA form. (I know. I know. Cut and
paste if you like, friends. There’s a reason for this.) The Cabinet uses the information from
CPA and LCPA extensively during appointment season. Our use of your summary in
consultation together helps tremendously to keep your Cabinet Profile current. Thanks for
prayerful consideration as you complete these forms. Both forms are due when we meet in
SPRC Consultations: Scheduling in process. Stay tuned…. NOTE: Pastors are needed
to attend PPRC Consultations this year! We are doing SPRC consultations in Compass
Groups (or split Compass Groups) with worship, Bible Study and conversation around vital
congregation movement and how we might resource each other. The SPRC Consultation
form will be used as a guide for the conversation. Individual Local Church Vital Goals for
2012 will be sent from the District Office in July for review and updating. The SPRC
should have the Consultation sheet filled out and ready to dialogue about goals and strategy.
Due at the time of our SPRC consultation will be the revised Firelands LCPA (Local Church
Profile-Annual). If an SPRC wants to meet on an additional occasion for appointment
reasons, I’ll be happy to schedule a meeting at a later date. I need your support as we make
this shift in our meetings and focus!
Charge Conference: We will be gathering in Compass Groups once again for Charge
Conferences, so we can celebrate, encourage and help resource each other. For Charge
Conferences the major focus will be for you to
Share a “Bright Spot (1-3 minutes), of where you have seen God’s hand working
in your congregation or community missional goals for the coming year.
Encourage a “new voice,” perhaps a new confirmation or someone new to faith
or new in your congregation and community to share this bright spot moment.
Share at least one measureable focused way you believe God is calling you to
invest your lives in the coming year for Christ. Briefly tell a next step or a
developed plan/process to reach your goals. During our fall Charge
Conferences, each church will be asked to share these two brief clear goals.
Please have all Charge Conference Forms in the District Office no later than seven days
prior to the date of your church Charge Conference to give me a chance to carefully look
at your work and to prepare the ballots to be used.
The District will have two Charge Conference Forms Help dates for SPRC/Pastors.
Tuesday, July 10th at Willard Grace United Methodist Church, 6:30-8:00 pm
Monday, July 16th at LaGrange United Methodist Church, 1:30- 3:00 pm
As we lean into the coming consultation/charge conference season, I wanted to also remind
you of a few other important things regarding this process:
If there is any need to switch individual consultation dates that do not work for you,
please take responsibility to call a brother or sister and make the appropriate
adjustment and then let Betty know.
Completed reports may be dropped off at the office (there is a dropped box by the
front door), fax: 419.668.7227 or emailed: FirelandsDist@rrbiznet.com
It’s always helpful if we receive “Signatures” ahead of time. But if that is not
possible, be sure to hand the DS the signed forms at the time of your conference.
If you have any questions please feel free to call.
Grateful to be with you, accompanied and empowered by the Living Christ, all along the
