Mature Student Scholarships

These Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit, with
consideration being given to applicants’ individual circumstances (including
their financial situation) and responsibilities, and to other factors affecting

The award is an annual scholarship of £1,000.

Who is eligible for the scholarships?

To be eligible for these scholarships, you must:

   be over the age of 21 on 1 September of the year of first registration
    (although priority will be given if you are aged 25+)
   have registered for a full-time undergraduate degree course in the
    School of English Studies at The University of Nottingham
   meet the residency requirements for a ‘Home’* student
   be in receipt of all or part of the means-tested element of the Student
    Loan for living costs, and have applied for your maximum entitlement
   be studying for your first undergraduate degree at university

* ‘Home’ status relates to students who are (normally) domiciled within the
UK and have been assessed by their Local Authority as eligible for
Government financial support"

Applying for a scholarship

You can apply either before or after you’ve received an offer of a place
from The University of Nottingham, and before you receive your Local
Authority (LA) support notification letter. However any offer of a
scholarship will be conditional until evidence of any outstanding eligibility
criteria is provided. The outcome of your application will be advised to you,
in writing, normally within four weeks of the closing date (see below).
Payment of the Scholarship would be made to successful applicants in early
December each year.

consideration but please be aware that a number of students will be
competing for these scholarships and this is your opportunity to highlight
any special factors/additional information in support of your application.

   a student from a lone parent family
   a student from a family with low income/receiving benefits
   a student with dependents
   have a disability and/or require additional support
   any other factors (please specify)
