									                                 Transit Operations Supervisor/Story County

Transit Operations Supervisor for Story County (Ames office location) to provide instruction and technical
direction to drivers and dispatchers, to facilitate and maintain on-time performance. Under general supervision,
operates communication systems utilizing radio, telephone and computer equipment to provide assistance to
drivers and the public; schedules drivers and dispatch, dispatches personnel and equipment as needed;
maintains records of activities in response to service requests; leads, instructs and directs in areas of safe
driving practices, customer service, schedule maintenance and compliance with division rules and policies; and
performs other related work as required.

Essential Duties: The following duties represent the principal job duties however, they are not all-inclusive.
•Coordinates and dispatches all bus driver assignments for revenue service, special events and emergency
•Maintains on-time performance and conducts field observation audits.
•Provides instruction and direction to drivers in areas such as customer service, safe driving practices, schedule,
and maintenance.
•Identifies and reports operational problems and incidents to supervisors; makes recommendations and
proposes solutions.
•Prepares written reports regarding transit operations, accidents, breakdowns, and mechanical defects; and
monitoring run assignments.
•Maintains, supports, and promotes a safe work environment while complying with all safety rules, regulations,
policies, and procedures to ensure the well-being of Story County customers and employees.
•Responsible for complying with all agency rules, policies, and procedures, as well as all Federal and State laws
as required.
•Performs other related duties as required.

Qualification Guidelines: Knowledge of:
•Safety rules and regulations applicable to bus operations including CDL rules, vehicle traffic laws & regulations;
•Exercise tact and sound judgment when responding to operational and customer service issues,
•Knowledge of American with Disabilities Act guidelines
•Proper bus safety and maintenance inspections procedures;
•Establish effective working relationships with co-workers

License or Certificate
•Current CDL with Passenger endorsement

Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and skills required.

IMPORTANT: This position may require availability to work various shifts including weekdays, weekends,
evenings, and holidays.
