SALARY: $15.63-19.01/hr                                                     FINAL FILING: September 17, 2012

VACANCY: The current openings are at: Tierra Linda Elementary School for 5 hr/day, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and
El Descanso School, 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., 4 hr/day. Both positions are scheduled to work 187 days/yr.

completed, and returned to the Pleasant Valley School District, 600 Temple Avenue, Camarillo, no later than 4:00
p.m., September 17, 2012. A current typing certificate for 30 net wpm is required with application.

BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of health service duties at a
school or District health office; perform specialized health care services to children with exceptional needs; perform
routine clerical work as required.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: (complete job description in the district office). Perform a variety of health service
duties at a school or District health office. Monitor assigned physically handicapped students in the classroom,
outdoor playground or other location; perform specialized health care services to children with exceptional needs.
Assist in screening ill or injured children according to established procedures. Perform specialized physical health
care services which are necessary during the school day to enable a child to attend school and which are prescribed
by the child’s licensed physician such as catheterization, oxygen administration and flow monitoring, glucose
monitoring, injections, emergency care and other health care related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE OF: Health and safety regulations. First aid methods and procedures. Personal hygiene practices.
Clean and sterile treatment techniques. Operation of a computer terminal and data entry techniques. Modern
office practices, procedures and equipment. Record-keeping techniques. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and
courtesy. Applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable laws.
ABILITY TO: Administer first aid. Respond effectively and appropriately to emergency situations. Screen students
for various health and safety concerns. Interpret and apply related rules, regulations, policies, and laws. Operate
office equipment and a computer. Work confidentially with discretion. Communicate effectively both orally and in
writing. Lift children in and out of school buses, wheel chairs, braces or other orthopedic equipment. Learn and
apply applicable sections of the State Education Code and other pertinent health and safety regulations. Type or
keyboard at 30 words per minute. Work independently with little direction. Complete tasks in an environment
with constant interruptions. Understand and relate to children with special needs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalency and two years health office experience
including some experience with acute care required.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: A current typing certificate for 30 net wpm to be submitted with
district application. Valid First Aid and CPR certificates. Some positions in this classification may be required to
speak in a designated second language. Valid California driver’s license.
EXAMINATION PROCEDURE: Two-part job related exam. Must achieve a passing score on part one to be
eligible to proceed to part two. Relative exam weight: 50% written; 50% technical/general oral.

Testing Process: A two part, job-related exam will be administered. You must achieve a passing score on part one
to be eligible to proceed to part two. Relative exam weights: 50% written, 50% technical oral. Bilingual positions
will require an English/Spanish written & oral exam qualifying only. Please bring your picture identification to

Employment and Selection Procedure: All permanent classified positions are filled from eligibility lists which are
created through the examination process. All applicants must achieve a passing score in each part of the
examination process in order to be placed on the eligibility list. When a vacancy occurs, applicants in the top three
available ranks from the appropriate list shall be scheduled for an interview. Applicants not selected shall remain
on the eligibility list until they decline three job interviews, ask to be removed from the list, are hired, or until the
list expires. Lists of viable candidates are retained for one year, unless the list is exhausted prior to the expiration
date. Valid lists contain the names of candidates ready, willing, and able to accept employment, if offered.

“Open and Promotional”: Open and Promotional examinations are open to competition by qualified employees
and non-employees alike. All promotional candidates who successfully complete the examination process are placed
on a promotional eligibility list which must be used first in filling the vacancy(ies). If this list contains fewer than 3
ranks, it is then supplemented by names from the “Open” eligibility list.

                                  EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Employment Verification: In accordance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, the District
must verify that all new employees, at the time of hire, have proof of their right to work in the United States.

Fingerprinting: State law requires that all employees be fingerprinted. AB1610 prohibits employment until the
Department of Justice completes its obligations regarding the arrest and conviction information; and, from
employing a person who has been convicted of a violent or serious felony, as defined.

Probationary Period: A probationary period of 130 days or six months is required before appointment to
permanent status.

Health Benefits Eligibility Requirements: An employee is required to work at least 826 or more regular working
hours from July 1 through June 30 to qualify for a portion of paid benefits. Benefits begin the first of the month
following your appointment date. Full time employees that receive the full district contribution must enroll in a
medical plan.
Pre-placement Examination: All persons selected must pass a tuberculosis test and, for some jobs, must pass a pre-
placement medical examination given by a district- appointed physician.
