Both positions are scheduled to work 187 days/yr. BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of health service duties at a school or District health office; perform specialized health care services to children with exceptional needs; perform routine clerical work as required. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: (complete job description in the district office). Perform a variety of health service duties at a school or District health office. Monitor assigned physically handicapped students in the classroom, outdoor playground or other location; perform specialized health care services to children with exceptional needs. Assist in screening ill or injured children according to established procedures. Perform specialized physical health care services which are necessary during the school day to enable a child to attend school and which are prescribed by the child’s licensed physician such as catheterization, oxygen administration and flow monitoring, glucose monitoring, injections, emergency care and other health care related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE OF: Health and safety regulations. First aid methods and procedures. Personal hygiene practices. Clean and sterile treatment techniques. Operation of a computer terminal and data entry techniques. Modern office practices, procedures and equipment. Record-keeping techniques. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable laws. ABILITY TO: Administer first aid. Respond effectively and appropriately to emergency situations. Screen students for various health and safety concerns. Interpret and apply related rules, regulations, policies, and laws. Operate office equipment and a computer. Work confidentially with discretion. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Lift children in and out of school buses, wheel chairs, braces or other orthopedic equipment. Learn and apply applicable sections of the State Education Code and other pertinent health and safety regulations. Type or keyboard at 30 words per minute. Work independently with little direction. Complete tasks in an environment with constant interruptions. Understand and relate to children with special needs. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalency and two years health office experience including some experience with acute care required. LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: A current typing certificate for 30 net wpm to be submitted with district application. Valid First Aid and CPR certificates. Employment and Selection Procedure: All permanent classified positions are filled from eligibility lists which are created through the examination process. All applicants must achieve a passing score in each part of the examination process in order to be placed on the eligibility list. Probationary Period: A probationary period of 130 days or six months is required before appointment to permanent status. Health Benefits Eligibility Requirements: An employee is required to work at least 826 or more regular working hours from July 1 through June 30 to qualify for a portion of paid benefits. Benefits begin the first of the month following your appointment date. Full time employees that receive the full district contribution must enroll in a medical plan. Pre-placement Examination: All persons selected must pass a tuberculosis test and, for some jobs, must pass a pre- placement medical examination given by a district- appointed physician.
