St. Michael’s Episcopal Day School Class Policies
6th Grade Earth Science Mrs. Graffis
Grading: Grades will be determined using the standard St.
Michael’s point system
90% to 100% = A
80% to 89% = B
70% to 79% = C
60% to 69% = D
0% to 59% = F
Grades will be weighted and calculated using the
following values:
tests and quizzes = 30%
homework and classwork = 30%
lab reports = 20%
organization & participation = 20%
Behavior: Students will be expected to follow all of St. Michael’s rules
and regulations as well as all LABORATORY safety rules outlined in the
Student Safety Contract. Violators will be immediately removed from
the classroom and receive a conduct referral.
Tardies: Being late to class is not acceptable and will result in a
deduction in your grade.
Materials: The following materials are required for every class:
Science Notebook (3 ring binder) with a supply of binder
paper and graph paper
A pencil pouch containing pencils, blue or black pens,
colored pencils and highlighters
Covered Textbook/Online Textbook
You may be required to bring other supplemental materials
throughout the year.
Notebook: A 1 1/2” or 2” three ring binder with three tab dividers is
required. Science binders will be graded once each quarter. Dividers
should be labeled as follows:
Earth Science Units
Engineering
Forensics
Homework: St. Michael’s Homework Guidelines will be strictly
enforced. Homework will be assigned approximately 3 nights a week.
All completed homework assignments should be kept in your science
binder and recorded on the appropriate assignment sheet.
Tests and Quizzes: Quizzes may be given on a weekly basis and tests
will be given according to the middle school test schedule. A parent
signature will be required in order for all test and quiz grades to be
recorded. All test and quizzes should be kept in your science binder and
recorded in the appropriate unit assignment sheet.
Laboratory Reports: All formal lab reports will be computer generated
using the required format. All lab reports should be kept in your science
binder and recorded in the appropriate unit assignment sheet.
Engineering: You will work on several engineering projects throughout
the year. Projects may include bridge building, solar cars, research and
presentation projects, and other related projects. All engineering and
robotics assignments should be kept in your science binder and
recorded in the appropriate unit assignment sheet.
Forensics: You will be completing several units on forensic science and
crime scene investigation throughout the year. All forensic science
assignments should be kept in your science binder and recorded in the
appropriate assignment sheet.
