Syllabus for Modern World History
From 1500 A.D. to the Present
Course Title: HS 130 – Modern World History
Course Credit: 3 Semester Hours
Time: January 22 to May 13, 2007
Objective of the Teaching: I shall teach this course by attempting to provide an analysis
of the political, economic, and social developments in world history from1500 A.D. to
the present. Through diversified teaching techniques, it will be demonstrated how each
of these developments interrelated and thus shaped the course of the history of world
history. It is expected that upon completion of the course, each student will have gained
a great or much greater kno2wledge and appreciation of the developments in world
history.
Teaching techniques: in order to enhance interest and understanding, numerous
teaching approaches will be utilized. Expect the use of maps, lectures, videos, classroom
recitals, any artifacts that I might come across, and the presentation of tourist literature.
Student Evaluation:
I expect each student to visit an appropriate historical site relating to art in the
Washington, C.C. area. One must present a two of three page typewritten paper (double-
spaced) on the site visited. Documentation for any paper written must be provided
when the paper is presented me for grading. Documentation may e in the form of a
recorded cassette tape, pamphlet, brochure, etc. The purpose for this is to assure myself
that no plagiarism occurred. Sites that can be covered include the National Gallery of Art
(East or West Building), the Smithsonian Museum of African Art, the Smithsonian Freer
Gallery of Art, or the Smithsonian Arthur Sackler Gallery. As an alternative to art, one
