Details of Employment - Marketing and Public Relations Officer
A position has arisen for a Marketing and Public Relations Officer to assist in the operation of The DOCK
Arts Centre, Carrick on Shannon, Co Leitrim. The details of employment are as follows:

2. EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential to the position
The candidate must have reached a standard of education sufficient to enable the candidate to
carry out the assigned duties.
Has experience / a proven interest in the arts
Should demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of marketing techniques
Demonstrate attention to detail and quality writing / proofing / sub-editing and presentation skills.
Show excellent IT skills (in particular database packages, but also web, word processing &
desktop publishing packages).
Show a high level of oral and written proficiency in the English language
Demonstrate the ability to work to deadlines and on own initiative
Have strong interpersonal and communication skills
Demonstrate good planning and organisational skills.
Have relevant work experience
The candidate should demonstrate good customer service skills.
Demonstrate creative skills / approaches to developing audiences for the arts
Have experience of sponsorship development and liaison
Have an aptitude for design of promotional materials
Demonstrate relevant training/qualifications in relation to the requirements / duties of the post
Retirement age is determined in accordance with National Legislation.
4. DURATION OF CONTRACT
This is a full time two-year contract position.
All contracts will be subject to a probationary period of six-months during which there will be an
ongoing review of your performance. The probationary period may be extended at the
employer’s discretion. Either party may terminate employment during probation or at the end of
the probationary period on one week’s notice.
The salary is €26,000 per annum and will be paid fortnightly in arrears.
The duties shall be such as may be assigned from time to time by the employer and shall include
those detailed in Appendix 1.
8. WORKING HOURS
The core working week will be 37.5 hours per week. Evening and weekend duty will arise as the
programme of The DOCK / the County Arts Programme requires, and a system of time in lieu
will be in operation.
For the purpose of satisfying health requirements, the employer shall request successful
candidates, before they are appointed, to undergo at their own expense a medical examination
by a qualified medical practitioner to be nominated by the employer. Each candidate must be in
a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and
efficient service. On taking up appointment the expense of the medical examination will be
refunded to candidate.
Holders of the office shall reside in the district in which their duties are to be performed or within
a reasonable distance thereof.
Selection of candidates for appointment shall be by means of an open competition based on an
interview conducted by or on behalf of the Employer. The merits of candidates shall be
assessed by reference to their suitability for appointment, general knowledge and intelligence
with extra credit for educational qualifications and experience of value, if any. A short-listing
procedure may apply.
The Employer shall require a person to whom an appointment is offered to take up such
appointment within a period of not more than one month and if he/she fails to take up the
appointment within such period or such longer period as the employer in its absolute discretion
may determine, the employer shall not appoint the person.
12. ANNUAL LEAVE:
The post holder will be entitled to 25 days annual leave plus all public holidays (or days in lieu of

Marketing and Public Relations Officer
A position has arisen for a Marketing and Public Relations Officer to be responsible for the Marketing and
Public Relations functions of The DOCK Arts Centre, Carrick on Shannon. The post holder will deal
primarily with the performing arts, education and workshop programmes, and the general promotion of The

The preparation, planning and on-going management of PR and marketing campaigns relating
to the work of The Dock
Building and maintaining relationships with potential sponsors and funders
Liaising regularly with funders, sponsors, board members, the media and other stakeholders
relating to the programmes of The Dock
Developing a strategic approach to promotion of The Dock at local and national level, across all
media including new media (such as Facebook and Twitter etc.) and e-commerce strategies
The preparation and distribution of publicity / marketing / educational materials – including
targeted distribution of flyers / posters etc.
Documenting arts projects in The Dock through appropriate means e.g. photographs, audio,
Compilation of the quarterly ‘What’s on in Leitrim’ guide
The on-going management and cross-checking of mailing lists / databases, including the regular
integration of Box Office (Databox) and general arts mailing lists
Content managing and development of the Dock’s website, including management and
operation of an online booking system
Liaising with artists regarding targeted promotion, and the compiling of biographical and other
information for promotional / educational materials
Establishing links and relationships with existing and new partners / companies / community
groups / schools / individuals regarding special interest activities, and the promotion of The
The development of promotional packages for audience / patrons, in conjunction with other
tourism / leisure / hospitality providers
The development and management of members/friends schemes for The Dock
On-going monitoring of events / sales to determine likely audiences and develop creative
solutions to ensure each event fully achieves its audience potential
On-going market review and monitoring of customer trends to assist with programming /
Operating front of house/box office for performances/workshops as the need arises
Deputising for other staff as the need arises
Other Duties, as assigned, which reasonably fall within the broad terms of the operations of The
