Dear Member of the Ohio General Assembly:

I am writing to express my strong support and to encourage passage this year of pension legislation
based on recommendations proposed by the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System’s Board of
Trustees.

The recommendations, proposed more than two years ago, are vital to my retirement security and to
the security of countless Ohioans. I believe such legislation is in the best interest of Ohio’s workers and
supportive of a recovering Ohio economy.

Pension legislation is also critical to providing meaningful health care coverage to retirees, thereby
keeping them off public assistance programs and reducing the burden on taxpayers. OPERS has
indicated that further legislative delays could mean an end to access to health care coverage offered by
OPERS for current and future retirees. I believe that is a dire situation that could be avoided if pending
legislation is passed soon.

I strongly encourage you, as a member of the Ohio General Assembly, to support passage of pension
legislation in 2012 that reflects the OPERS Board’s proposed changes. Further delays will only
compromise the fiscal solvency of the pension system and cause a forfeiture of savings of almost $1
million each day.
