            for Design and Technical Students at the Theatre School

Literacy/Knowledge

A. Theatre History
   1. Each student should have a basic knowledge of world theatre from Greek theatre to
      present.
   2. Within design areas, each student should have a general understanding of their
      discipline’s historical development

B. Art History
   1. Each student should have a basic familiarity with the major artists in art history.
   2. Each student should have a basic knowledge of period styles of fine art and architecture,
       the decorative arts, including furniture and clothing.

C. Literature
   1. Each student should have a basic knowledge of world literature
   2. Each student should have a basic knowledge of the forms of dramatic literature

D. World History & Religion/Philosophy
   1. Each student should have general knowledge of world history and a general
      understanding of current events
   2. Each student should have a general understanding of the major religions and
      philosophical movements.

E. Stage Craft
   1. Each student should have a solid knowledge of area-specific stagecraft and theatre
       production technology
   2. Each student should have a solid knowledge of area-specific materials and techniques for
       theatrical production
   3. Each student should have a solid knowledge of area -specific drawing/drafting principles
   4. Each student should develop a strong self-discipline and ability to work independently.

Skills

A. Analytical:
   1. Each student should have the ability to read and analyze a broad range of dramatic
       literature in order to develop theatrical concepts.
   2 Each student should have the ability to analyze a variety of visual materials in order to
      develop and communicate theatrical concepts.

B. Communication:




                                                                                     Assessment disk
    1.   Each student should have the ability to express and communicate his/her ideas clearly,
         both visually, verbally and in writing.
    2.   Each student should be able to communicate effectively with other theatrical disciplines.

C. Collaborative:
   1. Each student should have the ability to successfully work within a group process.
   2. Each student should be able to work successfully with collaborators from all theatrical
       disciplines.

D. Computer:
   1. Each student should have basic computer skills: word processing, spreadsheet,
   powerpoint, internet, etc.
   3. Each student should have competence in computer skills specific to their area: AutoCad,
      LightRight, etc.

E. Research:
   1. Each student should have a broad range of skills to research competently in varied
      capacities: internet, library, etc.
   2. Each student should be able to discriminate between useful and unreliable resource
      materials.

F. Technological:
   1. Each student should achieve competency in the practical application of technology skills
      in their area-specialization.

G. Graphic:
   1. Each student should achieve competency in graphic skills (drawing, rendering, drafting)
      necessary to their area of specialization.
