                      Tasks                                     Notes

   Complete “Pre-entry activity”              See pre-entry portal.

   Attend FY introductory talks (sessions A
    and B).

   Get your student ID card.

   Get your student planner.

   Complete your unit form.                   Check that the unit credits add up to 120.

   Build your timetable, including:
        - all unit names
        - all classroom numbers

   Attend meeting with linked degree          See Induction Guide for time/place.
    tutors.

   Submit your completed unit form to FY      See Induction Guide for exact
    staff on Fri 21 Sep.                       time/place.

                                 Foundation Year!


The Foundation Year is your opportunity to really make the most of your decision to come
to University - and this is where it starts!

Induction week is hectic and can be confusing if you don’t attend all the sessions. So please
try to be prompt, and be sure to bring along any items required.

Make the most of this week and you’ll be off to a flying start when classes start on Monday
24th September 2012.

If you need any help outside of the timetabled sessions during Induction Week go to the
Student Information Point (SIP) at the Oxford Road entrance of John Dalton.

Monday am

During this very important session you will find out about your course and meet the
Foundation Year staff. Please bring a pen. You will receive a Student Guide, a Student
Planner and a Unit Form. Staff will explain the importance of your planner and unit form
then will show you how to complete the unit form. You will also be given assistance to
enable you to begin to fill out your timetable.

Monday pm
You will be given information on your core units and assigned to specific classes.

Some of you, at some stage, will need help with finance or accommodation, and many of
you will want to make the most of the University’s excellent sport and exercise facilities.
This session is designed to give you information on all these services and facilities, and many
more.

If you were unable to register online this is your formal enrolment at the University. If you
did register online you need to pick up your Student ID card to complete your enrolment.

Payment of any Student Loan is dependent upon the University having a record of this
number.




                              Wednesday 19th September 2012

Wednesday am

During this session you will meet staff from your linked degree department, including your
personal tutor. Times and venues for these meetings are included in the table below. This is
your chance to find out more about the degree course you have chosen. Staff will be
dividing you into teaching groups where appropriate.

Wednesday pm

Why not use the afternoon to go to the Freshers’ Festival in the Sugden Sport Centre (10am
– 4pm)? It also includes a Freshers’ Jobs Fair where local employers will be looking to recruit
students to part-time jobs. It is a good way to find out more about the social, sporting and
recreational activities MMU and Manchester have to offer. Also, there are always lots of
goodies being given away!

Checking of Unit Form and Timetable

All rooms are in the Geoffrey Manton Building
It is extremely important that you attend this session and that you stick to your allocated
time. Staff will be checking and collecting your unit form and ensuring you know where to
go for all your classes next week. They will be able to help you with any problems you
have. You will also be asked to sign an Agreement Form.
