                    UPWARD BOUND EDUCATIONAL ADVISOR
                             JOB DESCRIPTION

A.    Position Summary

      The Upward Bound Educational Advisor is responsible for all duties and
      responsibilities as outlined in the Upward Bound Grant.

B.    Organizational Reporting

      The Upward Bound Educational Advisor is directly responsible to the Coordinator of
      Upward Bound

C.    Essential Functions/Majors Responsibilities

      At a minimum, the essential functions of the Upward Bound Educational Advisor are:

      1.     to work with target schools personnel in meeting the students’ needs;

      2.     to conduct advising sessions with participants;

      3.     to maintain and transmit records of each participant to the Coordinator of
             Upward Bound;

      4.     to assist with identification and recruitment of eligible students from grades 9-12
             at target schools;

      5.     to administer standardized tests to participants as needed;

      6.     to facilitate Mentoring and assist with After-school Tutorial Programs;

      7.     to assist with return trips and summer program;

      8.     to assist participants in exploring career fields and choosing career goals;

      9.     to assist participants in choosing a postsecondary institution;

     10.     to assist participants with financial aid/scholarship searches;

     11.     to participate in staff and in-service meetings;

     12.     to perform other duties to achieve program goals and objectives; and

     13.     to be familiar with and adhere to college policies and procedures.


D.    Other Responsibilities

      Assuming other work related responsibilities as assigned by the Coordinator of Upward
      Bound.

E.     Performance Evaluation

       The Upward Bound Educational Advisor’s job performance will be evaluated
       annually by the Coordinator of Upward Bound.

F.     Qualifications

       The Upward Bound Educational Advisor must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree
       from an accredited college or university. Work experience with special populations is
       preferred.

G.     Essential Characteristics

              Excellent oral, auditory, and writing skills
              Visual ability
              Manual dexterity
              Ability to manage stress and time well
              Mastery of appropriate computer operation skills
              Ability to work well with others
              Ability to bend, kneel, and reach
              Willingness to work flexible hours
              Mastery of standard business office equipment (calculator, copier, fax machine,
               telephone system)
              Ability to operate a motor vehicle
              Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
              Willingness to travel, as appropriate
              Ability to develop and monitor budgets
              Ability to lift objects weighing twenty pounds
              Ability to utilize and fully maintain filing systems
              Ability to perform basic mathematical skills, such as percentages and fractions,
               etc.
              Ability to operate standard business office machines (e.g. calculator, copier, fax
               machine, television)

H.     Salary Schedule

       The salary schedule for position is based on State Salary Schedule E.
