                  ACKNOWLEDGEMENT REGARDING
              CONVERSION TO COMPETITIVE APPOINTMENT
Excepted Service Appointments are called that because they are excepted from the
many Government-wide regulations applicable to Competitive Service Appointments.
Some Excepted Service Appointments do lead to conversion to Career Appointments
without further competition, but others do not.


This Excepted Service Appointment under the Navy Career Intern Program is not-to-
exceed 2 years. The 2-year internship should include formal training and
developmental opportunities to meet specific needs at SSC Charleston. Upon
satisfactory completion of the internship, the intern may be noncompetitively converted
to a career appointment in the competitive service. If the performance of the intern is
not satisfactory or if the intern fails to satisfactorily complete the internship, employment
will be terminated.

I, ________________________________________, understand that the position I am
accepting with the Department of the Navy (DON) is in the Navy Career Intern Program
and that my internship will last for a two-year probationary period. Upon satisfactory
completion of this program, the Department of the Navy may non-competitively convert
me to a permanent position in the Competitive Service, but there is no mandatory
obligation to do so.




I have been provided adequate time to review this Acknowledgement and ask any
questions about its terms.
