Design-build construction project will add seven buildings and 1,200 beds to campus student housing

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Feb. 02, 2012) - Sundt Construction, Inc. has been awarded a $71 million design-
build contract for a student housing construction project at the University of California - Davis. The Tercero
Student Housing Phase 3 Project will span 330,000 square feet across seven buildings, consisting of 108 single
units and 537 double units, multiple lounges, study areas, computer centers and gathering spaces. The 1,200-bed
facility is centrally located on the UC Davis campus, and the building will surround a landscaped courtyard.
Sundt's project partners for the Tercero III Student Housing project include EHDD Architects, KPFF,
Cunningham, Guttmann & Blaevoet, Lawson Mechanical and Berg Electric. The Sundt/EHDD design-build team
is currently in the early design phases, with construction set to begin in June 2012. The project's anticipated
completion date is June 2014.
The Tercero Student Housing Phase 3 Project is the second UC Davis school construction project in
recent years for which Sundt has provided both design and construction services. The general contractor also
built the university's state-of-the-art complex that includes the Maurice J. Gallagher Jr. Hall, home of the Graduate
School of Management, and the UC Davis Conference Center. The LEED Platinum green building, completed in
2009, received a National DBIA Design/Build Excellence Award in June 2011. Sundt is also currently serving as
the general contractor for the Veterinary Medicine 3B project on campus.
"We're very excited to be launching another design-build project with our partners at UC Davis," said Teri
Jones, project executive and vice president for Sundt. "Our project portfolio includes a lot of education
construction projects in California university environments, and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to return to
this wonderful campus."
Jones said the housing project will be overseen by its office in Sacramento, Calif., and she estimates it
will sustain or create more than 350 jobs over the 24-month construction period.
UC Davis said the construction project will be funded through its Student Housing capital reserves and
loan funds; no state or tuition money is being used.
