B.S.E Health and Physical Education Prerequisites for Program Entry Step 1 – Meet requirements for Teacher Education (TE) Successful completion of areas A-F of program, as listed in the Undergraduate Catalog. This includes completion of Area A Essential Skills with a “C” or better grade and Area F Course appropriate to the major with a grade of “C” or better. Overall GPA of 2.5 or higher (includes all transfer credit) Passing score on GACE test of basic skills or exemption. The current options for satisfying the Basic Skills Assessment, including the exemptions, are outlined at www.gapsc.com/documentation/basicskillsinfo.asp. Upon completion of above requirements, students must apply for entry to Teacher Education. The application is available in the KH Department, room 137, Sports Arena. DEADLINES FOR SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION for Teacher Education (HPE) Semester Due Date for Application and all materials Summer March 1 Fall May 1 Spring October 1 Once the application is received, your file will be reviewed by Mrs. Terry Metzler, academic advisor for BSE HPE program. If you have met all of the prerequisites, you will receive an invitation for an interview with the HPE faculty. Step 2 – The HPE interview & writing sample Interview with 2 or more HPE faculty Complete writing sample Once the interview and writing sample is complete, you will be notified within 10 business days via GSU official e-mail about admission to HPE program. If admitted to the program, you will need to schedule an appointment with Mrs. Terry Metzler at email@example.com for advisement purposes. If admission to program is denied, you will need to schedule an appointment with the Office of Academic Assistance for advisement (404-413-8000). I understand that the teacher education program at Georgia State University requires me to obtain and provide evidence of having adequate tort liability insurance. This coverage is available to me as part of SGAE membership, PAGE membership, or private homeowners’ insurance. I understand that I must maintain coverage throughout the program. • I understand that I must submit passing scores on the GACE Basic Skills Assessment or demonstrate an exemption upon application to the Health and Physical Education program. A passing score on GACE Basic academic skills tests in Reading, Mathematics, and Writing, or proof of eligibility for exemption based on SAT, ACT, PRAXIS I, or GRE scores. 4. A grade point average of no less than 2.5 (includes GSU and any transfer credit). 5. Departmental interview and writing sample.
