   ********************************************************************************

All linking verbs are linked to a subject and a subject complement, which can be one word or
several words. The subject complement is either a predicate noun if it identifies the subject of the
sentence or a predicate adjective if it describes the subject.

The most common linking verb is the verb ‘to be’: am, is, are, was, were. Other linking verbs are:
seem, appear, look, happy, feel, become, etc.

It appears I have an aptitude for English Daphne thought when she received an ‘A’ on her essay.
However, she decided not to become an English teacher.
Apollo was not so happy with his graded; in fact, he looked rather depressed.

A transitive verb is one that requires a direct object:

Apollo took English 1301 (direct object) again this semester.
Daphne took English 1302. (direct object)

An intransitive verb does not take a direct object:

Daphne smiled.
Apollo wept.
 Make sure your sentence does contain a direct object
when you use a transitive verb!
